LARIF’s flagship instrument is the high field 3-Tesla Siemens Magnetom Skyra MRI. The Skyra 3T is a 48-channel XQ gradient MRI scanner with 70cm wide bore. The system comes with 32 channel head coil, 20-channel head/neck coil, TxRx head coil, special purpose coil, flex coils, loop coils, 32-channel spine coil, 18-channel body coils and MR contrast injector.
Applications: Neurological imaging, Fetal imaging, Spectroscopy, Cardiac and Vascular imaging, Musculoskeletal, Forensic and Veterinary imaging
Imaging at PIRL
PIRL is home to the Large Animal Research and Imaging Facility (LARIF), the South Australian node of the National Imaging Facility.
National Imaging Facility Fellows are available to assist with various stages of research, from design, ethics submission and imaging protocol selection, to imaging equipment operation and post processing.
Multipurpose Catheterisation Laboratory
The LARIF Catheterisation suite is equipped with a Siemens multipurpose floor-mounted Artis Zee unit. Equipped with a range of features including exposure modulation tools, digital subtraction angiography, steep angulation, position memory and more, the unit is suitable for a multitude of large animal research.
Applications: Cardiovascular research, interventional procedures and catheter and device localisation
Permetium (4D Medical)
The Permetium Pulmonary Preclinical Imaging System is a small animal research scanner which uses x-rays and computed tomography capabilities to measure respiratory function in small rodents.
